    Hello Haitham,

Thanks so much for taking the time to submit this detailed request. I just had a quick confirmation to run by you. Are you looking at this feature being added as an event (which is what would be triggering), or is this more built in functionality when you assign virtual directories at a user/group level?

    Hello Connor,

Thank you for your follow-up. My request is for this to be built-in functionality at the Virtual Directory level, rather than just an event trigger. The idea is that when admins create or edit a Virtual Directory, they can enable notifications directly in its settings.

This way, notifications are automatically tied to the users/groups who have access to that directory, using their profile email addresses, and only if their accounts are active. The goal is to make it seamless and user-centric, without requiring separate event configuration.

That said, if the most practical implementation is through the event system, I’d be happy as long as the end result achieves the same behavior: consolidated notifications for uploads/downloads, delivered to the relevant active users.

    Best regards,

    Hello Haitham,

Thanks so much for the clarification. We do actually have events that are built in for both uploads and downloads, that can fire off emails when either of those actions take place on a given directory.

Check out this document and see if it's missing anything you're looking for currently (if we went down the path of this being an event): https://support.cerberusftp.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001954550-Rule-Examples#C1

    Hello Connor,

Thank you for pointing me to the documentation and confirming the existing event-based options. I reviewed the examples, and while they do provide a way to trigger email notifications for uploads and downloads, I noticed a few limitations compared to what I outlined in my original request:

    • Dynamic delivery tied to Virtual Directory access: The current event system doesn’t appear to support sending notifications automatically to the email addresses of users who have access to a specific Virtual Directory (and its subfolders). Instead, notifications must be configured manually, which reduces the seamless, user-centric behavior I was hoping for.
    • Active user validation: There doesn’t seem to be a way to ensure notifications are only sent to active (non-disabled) accounts, which is important for both accuracy and security.
    • Consolidation of multiple events: The event system sends individual notifications for each upload/download. My request included consolidating multiple actions within the same directory path into a single notification, to reduce clutter and improve usability.

These gaps are why I suggested a built-in Notification section at the Virtual Directory level. It would allow admins to enable notifications directly in the directory settings, automatically tie them to relevant active users, and consolidate multiple events into one email.

I completely understand if the most practical path is through the event system, but I wanted to highlight these limitations so the team can consider whether enhancements could be made to bridge them.

    Best regards,
    Haitham

Thanks so much for the very detailed response here Haitham, I'll get this wrapped up and sent over to our Product and Engineering teams for their review. Many thanks for taking the time!

    Hello Haitham,

I just wanted to let you know that unfortunately at this time, we're not able to fulfill this enhancement request. It may be something that we can revisit in the next few quarters, but at the moment we have high priority tasks that currently take priority, and improvements for the entire product along with stability additions.
