Can someone point me to the documentation that explains the purpose of the 127.0.0.1 interfaces and how they should be maintained?

  Hello, Jim. 

   

  There isn't any documentation on the purpose. You would typically use those interfaces for internal testing. 

  Using the loopback IP is a good way to test behind a firewall. You can disable the interfaces if you have no need to use them as well. Please refer to the following documentation on how to disable a listener.
