Unable to download from Cerberus Server
I'm in the process of evaluating Cerberus v11.2.2.0 as a replacement for the server software I've used for years. At present, I'm attempting to run it on a Windows 7 Professional 32-bit install and like what I see so far. I'm able to log in to the Web Administration portal without problem using Firefox. Access to the server itself using FlashFXP 5.4.0 works well, connecting using passive mode and TLS 1.2. I'm able to download from the server at speeds consistent with what I've achieved in the past.
However, I'm unable to upload a file of any size to the server. When I attempt to do so, the connection speed drops to zero over a second or two, after which the connection is terminated. When that happens, I'm unable to connect back in to the server with either my FTP client or via the Web Administrator portal. Logging into the machine remotely and checking around, I see that the Windows Service has shut down. Once I restart the service using "services.msc", I'm again able to log into the server and download. Uploads continue to fail as described.
I don't believe the problem has to do with write permissions on the server drives since I've selected "all permissions" for both of the virtual drives I've given my user account access to. Furthermore, I'm able to both rename and delete files on the server using my FTP client.
Everything works just fine when I'm running my old server software (Serv-U v6.4), but that doesn't play as well with Windows 7 as I'd like and I'm sure it won't play at all with Windows 10. Hence my search for a substitute.
I've checked through the troubleshooting tips and FAQs, but see nothing that seem related to my problem.
Any suggestions? I'd like to get this figured out before my trial runs out so I can make a decision regarding a purchase.
Thanks in advance for the assistance. Let me know if you require any additional information.

Solution:
Go to 'Server Manager' > 'Protocols' > 'FTP and FTPS' > 'Advanced FTP/S' > 'FTP Compression' and see if 'Allow MODE Z Compression' is checked? Here's a screenshot of the setting:
If it is, please unselect it, and press 'Update' to save. You should then restart the Cerberus service via 'services.msc' and then retry your upload. -
Duh - spent all that time describing my problem and I couldn't even get the topic right. Can't figure out how to edit my posting though.
I can't upload to the Cerberus FTP server, not download from it.

Hi Mark, also, if possible, it would be great to get a Cerberus log file containing the time period of when you experienced these issues.
The log file can be found at the following location (usually entitled 'server.1.log' or similar (NOT the ui log):
C:\ProgramData\Cerberus LLC\Cerberus FTP Server\log (or whatever drive letter you have the Cerberus application installed on.I'd like to see what Cerberus does in this situation. Thanks! -- Ian

Ian helped me fix my problem. Turns out that I needed to unselect MODE Z compression:
Can you go to 'Server Manager' > 'Protocols' > 'FTP and FTPS' > 'Advanced FTP/S' > 'FTP Compression' and see if 'Allow MODE Z Compression' is checked? If it IS, please UNSELECT IT, and press 'Update' to save. You should then restart the Cerberus service via 'services.msc' and then retry your upload.
Thanks for the quick assistance. It's much appreciated!0
